How To Get Track and Field Sponsorships

Track and field stars start to amaze us in school as we see them leap over the high jump, sped around the track, or throw a discus into the distance. Since track and field is really a compilation of many sports and because of this there are many opportunities to find sponsors. In addition, due to the many companies out there willing to sponsor track and field events, there’s lots of competition between companies, essentially making it a buyers’ market, which is all the better for you.

1. Sports beverage companies, such as Gatorade, often come to mind when sporting events are talked about. They usually offer their products for free in exchange for some free ads. It’s no mistake that the cooler is next to the coach, where TV cameras will often get the name of the sports beverage in the shot. Depending how good a track and field star you are, you may get Gatorade to sponsor you. If that’s out of the question, don’t forget that there are literally tons of sports beverages out there, all vying to be the top product. Just take your pick. In order to increase your chances of getting sponsored, draft a sponsorship letter outlining your proposal to the companies. If the corporate sponsorship proposal gets accepted, get ready to receive products and even cash in exchange for advertising their product.

2. Going on the TV or radio could be twice as good an opportunity for you. Not only will you get the chance to meet some important press people, but you will also get your name out there. Of course, you’ll need a reason to go on the TV or radio. So if you’ve placed in a track and field event, whether locally or regionally, contact your nearest TV or radio station and ask to be put on the air. If you’ve won an important event, go to the most important TV station that will accept your proposal. Although, if you’ve won an event, you might just have the press knocking on your door!

3. The newspaper is still an important way to get your name out there. And there’s nothing like seeing your name in print. If you have a photo there, that’s even better. Journalists often go to track and field events, so the next time you see one, why not go up and start a conversation? If they’re busy, that’s ok, but it’s still worth a try. You’ve got nothing to lose. In addition, event sponsorship might also been done by a newspaper, so you could talk to the person in charge and find out a bit more.
