How To Get Skateboarding Sponsorships

Skateboarders often have a reputation for doing things differently as they should.  Not everyone can flip and turn through the air.  Skateboard parks attract many different types of people, from young kids, to teenagers, and even adults.  Skating has something about it that many people like.  It’s probably the adrenaline rush you get while skating.  Skaters don’t need heaps of equipment.  It’s like cycling in the fact that you just need your skateboard and elbow and knee pads, and a helmet.  Despite the fact that you don’t need much skating gear, if you can get quality goods cheaply, or even free, then you should.  That’s where sponsorship comes into play.  Sponsorship can in many forms, friends, family, companies, or even fellow skaters.  Below you can find three sponsorship ideas.

Enter skating competitions

Ranging from locally run to international, there are many different competitions out there.  Check the back of skating magazines to find out about coming up competitions.  Prizes can range from cash to skating gear and can also help you get noticed by recruiters or skateboarding trainers  Practicing is necessary in order to place in competitions, so head down to your local skate park, talk to your friends and see if they know about anymore competitions that you can enter.

Give lessons to the neighborhood kids

You’ll find that as a skateboarder, many kids will look up and admire you.  They’ll try to copy your tricks and will be very happy when they can.  If you’d like to have the kids’ parents sponsor you, then make a couple of business cards and send the children home with some flyers advertizing your classes.  You could give discounts for group lessons and discounts to those who book a certain number of hours.

Put on a show

People love watching skateboarding.  Like other sports, people will pay to watch you skateboard.  You might have to talk to the local skate park and figure out how you can control admission, but once you’ve got that settled, all you have to do is pick a date and find other people who are willing to put on a show.

If this sounds like something that interests you, consider contacting one of our sponsorship consultants to find out more information.
