How To Get Modeling Sponsorships

Many people end up paying an arm and a leg for modeling photos and classes, but few end up getting modeling contracts. In order to help you get a modeling gig, you’re going to have to do a bit of research first. The first thing that you need to do is find sponsors. Sponsors are people or companies willing to help you out, sometimes for free, other times in exchange for something, such as you modeling their clothes or product. Either way, it’s a win-win situation and will help you get your foot in the door. Below you can find three tips on how to get sponsorship.

1. Modeling classes. Look in the back of any women’s magazine and you’ll often see advertisements for modeling classes. They certainly don’t come cheap, but if you know how, you could get a discount and maybe even take classes for free. So what’s the catch? You’re going to have to help the modeling agency out. Aim for smaller companies or those just starting out and call them, or better yet, go there in person. The best thing is to know what you want. Ask them if they offer discounts for group lessons or if you sign a friend up for their classes. Once they agree, go out and find people willing to sign up for their classes and take them to the agency where they can enroll. In return, you’ll get a discount on the lessons.

2. Photo shoots. Maybe models shell out lots of money for professional photo shoots, but there are ways to get them done just as professionally, but at a fraction of the price. Contact your community college or look in the phone book for photography schools and ask them about their special prices. Students taking photography courses need to practice taking professional photos and often charge less than the professionals. Best of all, you’ll be more likely to be treated better by a student photographer than a photographer with their own studio.

3. Clothing and accessories. If you want to be a model, you’re going to have to dress like one. And while name brand clothing isn’t everything, you should have quality clothes. Luckily for you, it’s easy to find quality items at low prices. Outlets, ebay, your friends, and even the stores themselves can offer you plenty of choices and often at great bargains. If you’re going to go to the stores, go shopping at the end of the season and buy classic items that aren’t going to go out of style quickly. People usually wear 20% of their clothes 80% of the time, which means that your friends have a lot of clothes in their closets that they don’t use. And you probably do too. Try to set up a clothing swap with some of your friends. You’ll get rid of stuff you don’t use, and get stuff that you do. Best of all- it’s free.
