How To Get Disc Jockey Sponsorships

If you like being up on the stage, making dance mixes, being in the clubs and getting paid for it, then being a disc jockey is a perfect job for you.  While there are a handful of famous DJs out there, there are many others who would like to be famous.  And although they often are only at work a couple nights a week, they often spend many hours at home putting together songs and mixes.  Some clubs provide DJ with equipment, but most of them expect DJs to have their own at home.  If you’re looking for some tips on how to get sponsorship, read the three ideas below.

Contact schools and universities

Schools and universities often have dances a couple times a year and it would give you the chance to get more practice on stage.  The good thing about DJ at schools is that there’s often less stress than at the clubs.   In addition to getting practise and getting paid, you’ll probably get the chance to hand out your business card to people.  Students will often hire DJs for their graduation, or even their weddings, in the case of universities.

Go to the radio stations

Some radio stations have spots for guest DJs or may even interview up and coming DJs.  If you think you’ve got what it takes, then contact a couple of stations.  Send it a demo of your work and call them up.  Remember that sponsorship doesn’t always come in monetary form.  While you probably won’t get paid to be a guest DJ or do an interview, the free publicity is well worth the effort.

Talk to those in the know

Even well-known DJs had to start somewhere.  Whether you’re looking to be a DJ in a club or on the radio, contact DJs who have made a name for themselves.  While not all of them will be willing to help a DJ out, especially a talented one who could mean more competition, some of them will help you out.  They’ve been there and can give you lots of tips on how to make it big.
