How To Get Artwork Sponsorships

Artists see the world differently than most people and because of this they are able to create wonderful works of art. There are many different forms of art out there, such as drawings, paintings, sculptures, metalwork, or installations. Unfortunately, the expression the “starving artist” holds true for many of them, but doesn’t have to be true for you. There are many patrons of the arts out there, just waiting to help out an artist like you. If you’ve got the talent, are perseverant, and meet the right people, you could be on the road to fame. There are many sponsorship opportunities out there. Here are just a couple ways to get sponsors for your art.

1. Museums and galleries are often willing to sponsor an artist. While you may not get into the MOMA right away, there are plenty of smaller museums and galleries that might be willing to show your work for free. While some galleries may ask for a portion of the selling price of an item, museums are more likely to allow your artwork to be put on display for free. Both museums and galleries might also be willing to hold an opening show where you can invite friends, family, and patrons of the arts to see your work. If you do decide to put your artwork in a museum or gallery, be sure to sign a sponsorship agreement. Don’t simply take their word for it. While most people are honest, it’s easy to forget things when they’re not written down.

2. Patrons of the arts are often willing to help out. If you’re involved in the art circle, you’ll probably know a couple people who have found sponsors to help them out. While I don’t suggest calling people in the phone book, if you ask around, you should be able to find someone to sponsor you. Going to museums and asking might help you get some information. You could also check out the names of the donors. If they donated to a museum, they might be willing to help you out as well.

3. Art schools and art studios usually have ways to help out fellow artists. If you graduated from an art school, it wouldn’t hurt to go see a guidance counselor and ask how the school could help you out. After all, you did invest in your education, so they are often willing to give you some leads. They might even ask you to teach a couple of classes. By getting paid and having access to the art studio, you could further your pursuit in becoming a well-known artist.
